Who doesn’t remember the excitement of that first day of school when, after summer break, children reconvene to begin a new academic year? For most, it is a day filled with anticipation and happiness reconnecting with friends and meeting new teachers, while showing off brand new clothing and accessories. For too many children, however, that excitement is mitigated by adverse economic circumstances. That is why, since 2012, the CSC has partnered with Broward County School social workers and dozens of other community organizations to outfit thousands of students in need with new backpacks filled with supplies, shoes and uniforms with a Broward Back to School Community Extravaganza.
