Our Goal in Action
-
Stop Trafficking & Rescue Survivors (STARS)
Delinquency, Substance Abuse, and prior abuse are risk factors associated with commercial sexual exploitation of children. According to BSO CPIS by year case screenings, 72% of screened cases were classified as actively engaged, being groomed or strongly suspected of CSEC during 2012, 70% during 2013, and 60% through May 2014. Verified youth were more likely to have alcohol and drug use history, twice as likely to have 3 or more prior DCF placements, and 2.7 times more likely to have over 5 instances of running away.

Reduce the Incidence of Abuse and Neglect
929 families (many with more than 1 child) referred from BSO Child Protective Investigations Section were accepted for CSC services for State FY 2016/17, potentially diverting them from entering the dependency system. 14,130 grandchildren live in 9,570 households headed by a grandparent(s) primarily responsible for their financial/basic needs. About 24% of these children live below poverty (ACS 2016 - 5yr est). In SFY 2016/17, 48.3% or 2,139 of all Broward victims under age 18 are under age 5 (FDCF)
